“IT TAKES A LEAGUE OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS” TO RUN A PTA

The PTA is an association between the school’s parents and teachers’. It’s primary goal is to work closely with the school’s administration to enhance the children’s’ education. Any proceeds that the PTA earns during the year goes toward the school, i.e., new playgrounds, equipment, class trips and lots lots more. The PTA is comprised of many, many dedicated parent and teacher volunteers

The MAS PTA PROGRAMS

  • WELCOME BACK PICNIC ­ Traditionally held in the Fall, our families are invited to join a welcome back celebration including music, food, games and more
  • SPECIAL RELATIVES DAY - Fall time ­ Children will invite a special member of their families to visit their classrooms and tour the school
  • BAKE SALES ­ Parents are invited to donate baked goods a few times a year, in turn, the PTA sells the baked goods and the children love the yummy treats
  •  FALL AND SPRING BOOK FAIR: While literacy is a very important part of our children’s education, the PTA organizes two book fairs a year
  • MAMARONECK AVENUE SCHOOL THEATER (MAST): ONE OF MAS’ most FAMOUS TRADITIONS, A MUSICAL IS ORGANIZED FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES 3-5 WITH AN ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE OF “JUNIOR COMPANY” FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES K-2
  •  MAS INTERNATIONAL FAIR: One of our school’s major traditions that brings together all the different cultures of our schools and one of the PTA’s largest fundraisers, includes lots of family fun
  •  KINDERGARTEN & PRE-K POTLUCK DINNER AND AUCTION: Another MAS tradition, this event brings our school’s diverse cultures together with spectacular potluck meals donated from families
  •  SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT/TEACHER ASSOCATION: Representatives from our school liaise with the district’s SEPTA administrative staff to provide key information among a network of parents of special needs children
  • SQUARE ONE ART: New in 2009!! The children work with the art teachers to create a masterpiece to then get transposed onto mugs, t-shirts, stickers, potholders & more ­ great gifts for the holidays created by the treasures in our lives.
  • SAFETY AND WELLNESS: A committee of parents that strive to provide a safe and healthy environment for our children. Some examples are DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP LINES, WALK-TO-SCHOOL-WEEKS, BIKE RALLYS, PARKING SIGNAGE, and SUPERVISED K-1 CORNER
  • SCHOOL COMMITEES: Some examples are TURN-OFF T.V. WEEK, the School Yearbook, Summer Reading Challenge, Picture Day
  • AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS: The PTA provides an array of after school activities ranging from music and art driven clubs & many, many more. The clubs run 2x per year, 1x in the Fall & 1x in the Spring
  •  CULTURAL ARTS : This committee works closely with teaching staff to provide our children with appropriate educationally driven assemblies to enhance the children’s’ experiences
  • STUDENT WORK CELEBRATION: New in 2009, and an enhancement to our yearly Science Fair, this event gives every child an opportunity to display their imagination “Imagination Celebration”

  • PTA ADMINISTRATION: INCLUDES COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE ORGANIZING OUR SCHOOL DIRECTORY, CLASS PARENT COORDINATORS, SEPTA, PUBLICITY, VOTER REGISTRATION, AND TRANSLATION REPRESENTATIVES
  • GRADE LEVEL REPRESENTATIVES: Each Grade Level includes a volunteer that disseminates information to the Class Parents during the year. They organize a variety of activities for their respective Grade and plan special events during the year.
  • PARENT SERVICES: Hospitality committees that provide all the treats during the year at various events and meetings, library volunteers, we even host a volunteer appreciation night at the end of the school year and networking sessions for each grade level among parents
  • SCHOOL SPIRIT STORE: An opportunity to purchase apparel, pens, hats celebrating our school spirit
  • SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROGRAM: Parents have an opportunity to purchase their child’s supplies in June for the upcoming school year
  • BRICKS/TILES: Surrounding the entrance & foyer to MAS’ All-Purpose-Room (APR), families, friends can purchase a personalized tile to celebrate the children, a teacher and/or staff member ­ HELP THE PTA COMPLETE THE FOYER
  • MISCELLANEOUS: BEAUTIFICATION DAY, FIFTH GRADE GRADUATION, BANK SAVINGS PROGRAM
