Last Week's Issue of Tiger Talk

The Murray Avenue Silent Auction will be here before you know it. Donation forms were in your children's backpack this week. The Silent Auction is the PTA's largest fundraiser and Murray Parents are our biggest contributors! Please consider a donation to this worthy cause. A gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, tickets to a sporting or theater event, hosting a party or sharing a special skill would all be wonderful. Need more ideas? Contact Chris Hofstedt, Polly Kolotas or Kathy Langan. Donation forms are available outside the main office or email donations to any of the above addresses.
PTA Community Outreach Book Drive
From Dec. 4th – 8th, we will be collecting gently used books or educational DVDs/videos suitable for a library or classroom up to 4th grade to benefit the Bronx Charter School for Better Learning. We will donate any pre-school level books to the CAP center in Mamaroneck. Please deposit these books in the designated box outside the main office.
Cultural Arts Program
During the week of Dec. 4th, fourth graders will be participating in a Creative Drama Workshop with the artist, Karen De Mauro. Ms. De Mauro is a Broadway coach, a professional actress, and a storyteller who performs and directs all over the world. This is a highly participatory, exercise-based way of linking current classroom curriculum to the introduction of basic theatre elements. This program is sponsored by the PTA; and coordinated by the PTA Cultural Arts Committee in conjunction with a special committee of teachers and administrators who work together to plan enrichment programs for every grade. Special thanks to 4th grade teacher Joan Staudinger who sits on this committee and Cruz Soler for coordinating the scheduling of this program.
Murray Ave Flannel Pants are still available to order
Great for holiday gifts! If you are interested in ordering the flannel pants simply drop an envelope in the “Flannel Pants” Orders box outside of the Main Office by Dec. 15th. Please include Child’s Name, Teacher, Size (small, medium or large) and a check in the amount of $22/pair payable to “Murray Avenue PTA”. If you have any questions, please contact Pam Nodiff.
Thanksgiving Food Drive - Huge Success
The PTA Community Outreach Committee gives a special “thank you” to all the Murray Ave students who lent a helping hand on Sat, Nov. 18th by volunteering their time in the annual United Way/Hunger Task Force Food Drive held at Stop & Shop. Cartons of cereal, vegetables, pasta, soup and fruit were collected, sorted, and distributed to the 450 local families each month in need of food assistance in our neighborhood. The following students represented Murray Ave’s true spirit of giving and helped ensure that everyone in our community had food on the table this Thanksgiving: Eli Avraamides, Helen Clarida, Paul Clarida, Eli Cousin, Sam Cousin, Danielle DeVito, Jacklyn DeVito, Eliana Diamond, Jeremy Harwin, Connor LeBlanc, Ryan LeBlanc, Alex Leissl, Jessica Leissl, Bradley Levine, Jake Levine, Daniel Okay, Sarah Nagin, Zachary Nagin, Ben Psaila, Sophia Psaila, Lilyana Ross, William Ross, Dylan Shuman, Greer Shuman, Connor Sundin, Patrick Sundin, Andrew Zaback, Cara Zaback.
Art Appreciation
In March the children will be learning about the artist Jasper Johns through the Art Appreciation program. There is a wonderful exhibit taking place at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City called Picasso and American Art. On view until Jan. 28, 2007, the show examines the role Pablo Picasso played in influencing American Art in the last century. It depicts several artists we will be discussing in the spring - among them Jasper Johns! The Whitney located at 945 Madison Ave. at 75th St. contains one of the largest selections of Johns' work worldwide so you may want to check it out over winter break!
More “Thank Yous” for our Successful Bake Sale
We could not have done it without everyone's help. Big thanks go to Danny, Bruno and Mark, the Custodians, for helping us set up. Thanks to Village Square Bagels and Stop & Shop for their generous donations!
