Co-Presidents’ Welcome
We would like to welcome everyone back to Murray! It is great to see all our children back in the classrooms and halls of Murray with their enthusiasm and smiles. An especially warm welcome to all of the new Murray families and staff members.

Many families have been walking to school and we encourage you to keep it up as the weather turns colder. It is a great help in easing traffic and congestion around the school at drop-off and pick-up.

We want to take this opportunity to invite you to some of our upcoming PTA events. The Volunteer Fair and our first PTA Meeting of the year are on Friday, Sept. 21st. Please come – it is a great way to learn more about the school and your PTA. Also join us for a Grade-Level Coffee with our principals, your grade level rep, and other parents from your child’s grade (see dates at top right). And don’t miss our annual Fall Fling on Oct 18th – a chance to enjoy a fun, social evening with other parents and teachers. The Murray PTA is a partnership between parents, teachers and the administration. We hope you will take advantage of some of these events to involve yourself in our Murray community, stay informed and let us know what matters to you.

We wish everyone a wonderful year!
Sue Bokert and Kristine Budill

PTA Volunteer Fair and First Meeting of the Year
Want to get involved at Murray but you aren’t sure how? Join us at the Volunteer Fair, Friday, Sept. 21 at 8:30am in the downstairs cafeteria and find a good fit for your interests, talents and schedule! Committee chairs will be at “booths” to answer your questions about PTA activities and help you decide what is right for you. The fair will be followed by a PTA budget discussion and vote at 9:15am. Come when you can – even after pre-school drop-off. If you are interested in volunteering and can’t make the Volunteer Fair, please contact Debra Schwartz. We need your help and welcome your involvement!
Grade Level Coffees
Come join us for a cup of coffee and meet Jennifer Scazafave, Cruz Soler, your grade level rep and other parents from your grade. Bring along any questions you have or just stop by to say hello. The PTA will host a 9:15am coffee in the small lunchroom (room at the back of the downstairs cafeteria) for each grade and for SEPTA on the following dates: Kindergarten: Mon, Oct 29th, 1st Grade: Fri, Oct 26th, 2nd Grade: Fri, Oct 19th, 3rd Grade: Mon, Oct 15th, 4th Grade: Fri, Oct 12th, 5th Grade: Fri, Oct 5th, SEPTA: Fri, Nov 9th.
School Photos
Individual and class photos will be taken on Thursday, Sept 27 and Friday, Sept 28. Please look out for the photo order sheets in your child's backpack; they should be with you in the coming week. You will be notified in advance by your teacher which day your child will have his or her picture taken. We are looking for volunteers to help. Sign up at the PTA Volunteer Fair on Sept 21 or contact Trish Miller.
Murray Handbook
Each family should have received the new Murray Ave. School Handbook filled with information you need to get through the year. Please make time to read it. Sincere thanks to Jill Simpson for editing and updating this indispensable resource with the help of the school administration. Extra copies are available in the school office.
Thanks to the Healthy Hair Volunteers who helped with our back-to-school lice checks. We could not keep our school lice-free without you. We urge all parents to continue to check your children’s hair at home over the next month to ensure that they have not been exposed to lice; in light of the lifecycle of lice, follow-up hair checks are as important as the initial screening that was done at school. If you need information on how to conduct a lice check on your child, please contact Allison Garces.
