Murray Mardi Gras is almost here!!!
It’s still not too late to RSVP!
We are still looking for helpers on the night of the event, Feb 9. Just one half hour of your time can help make the Mardi Gras Silent Auction a success for our kids. Please contact one of us to sign up to help.
We will continue accepting cash donations for the Giving Tree, now located opposite the library. It will be moving to the Mardi Gras on Feb 9. For every cash donation received, a leaf will be added – let’s see how lush our Giving Tree can be! All donations go towards supporting our wonderful PTA programs.
Any questions, contact Chris Hofstedt at 834-7212, Polly Kolotas at 834-9432, or Kathy Langan at 833-2392. Donation forms are available outside the main office or email donations to any of the above. Thank you for your support!!!!

Celebrate Random Acts Of Kindness Week with Love in a Box!
Create a box for Love in a Box! All you need to do is decorate a small shoebox and fill it with fun things for a girl or boy and we will send it to children at the Carver Center or Montefiore Children’s Hospital. Flyers have been sent home with details of this great program. Boxes will be collected Feb 6-8. Include a note with your name and class (no other personal information is needed). For more information go to www.loveinabox.org. Let’s show these kids that Murray Kids Care!! |
Murray Magazine 2008 Submission Deadline Extended:
You still have one more week to submit your child’s original drawings, poems, and stories! The deadline for submissions to be published in Murray Magazine 2008 has been extended to Mon, Feb 11. Information on how to submit work can be found on the Murray Avenue PTA website at www.mamkschoolspta.org/murray under Murray Magazine or packets are available here.
Note: Some classes and all the Kindergarten classes will be doing their submissions in the classrooms. Submissions will NOT be accepted after February 11. Questions? Contact the co-chairs: Vicki Alcott or Abbey Straus. |
Attention All Scientists: The 5th Annual Science Fair is Coming!
The kickoff for our Murray scientists will be a presentation about Flight by the nationally acclaimed Franklin Institute on Mon, Feb. 4. Children in grades 2-5 will explore the history of flight, investigate the Bernoulli principle, and learn how airplane wings provide lift. Later that day, grades 3-5 will get their very own Science Fair Handbooks! Check your child’s backpack so you can review the Handbook together. The Fair takes place in June, so there is plenty of time to get projects organized. Completed Project Proposal Forms are due by Fri, March 7. For cool ideas, check out the Science Fair Resource Area in our library and the fun websites listed in the Handbook. We need volunteers, so please contact one of us: Liz Paras at 834-0787, Sarah Murray at 834-8491, or Suzanne Prigoda. |
A Tip from the Green Tigers:
A number of parents have expressed concern over the waste associated with the packaging or containers used for school lunches. Rather than packing your child's food in foil, wax paper or plastic bags, consider using small plastic storage containers. They come in different shapes and sizes perfect for sandwiches and snacks. The containers are reusable, dishwasher-friendly, and can be recycled when they wear out. By switching to reusable containers, we could really cut back on the garbage generated at lunch at Murray every day! |
